密度の濃い、充実した構成のアルバムである。ウクライナ出身、2010年よりケルンに在住するシンガー、タマラ・ルカシェヴァ (Tamara Lukasheva) による初リーダー・アルバム。故郷のオデッサでは劇場で女優としても活躍していたというだけあり、変幻自在なヴォイスの魔力、あらゆるシーンの演出能力とその引き出しの多さに、音楽を聴いているというよりは舞台芸術を楽しんでいるような錯覚に陥る。母国語であるロシア語や英語、跳躍力抜群のスキャットやファルセットが飛びかうが、いずれも時空を行き来し、異なる時代の「気分」やエキゾチズムを堪能させてくれる。特筆すべきは奏者たちの楽器へのタイム感覚の鋭敏さ、器楽の一翼としてのヴォイスとの溶け合いの良さ。各々の楽器がバランスよくフォーカスされ、ヴォイスとのぎりぎりまでの音色のシンクロは聴きがいがある。鮮やかな切り口で、短めのチューンが小気味よく進行するなか、ミニマリスティックな構成の標題曲 (track.8) は、重厚さを徐々に増してゆく音のドレープでアルバムの中心を成す。若手ながら筋のよいミュージシャン揃いだが、とりわけドミニク・マーニヒ (ds) とシャノン・バーネット (tb) は記憶しておきたい。(＊文中敬称略。伏谷佳代)
This album with its rich dense structure is the first time the Ukrainian singer Tamara Lukasheva, leads her band in the studio. Tamara, living in Cologne from 2010, hails from Odessa, where she has a reputation as a stage actress, and as may be expected, the magical power of her versatile voice, her feel for stage direction, and many performance ideas give us the impression we are enjoying a range of theatrical arts, rather than simply listening to music. Singing in her mother tongue Russian and in English, combined with her outstanding skipping scat and falsetto, the music ricochets back and forth across the stage on a journey through space and time, allowing us to fully savor the mood and exotic feel of different eras. Other remarkable treats are the musicians’ sharp sense of time and their seamless blending of their instruments with her voice. A balanced focus is given to each instrument, and the tone color synchronization with her voice taken to the very limits is particularly appreciated. Track 8, the title piece, offers a fresh approach and in a minimalistic composition and brisk progression of rather short tunes, forms the heart of the album with a flowing draping sound steadily increasing in weight and depth. Although young, all the musicians have a natural aptitude; in particular, we should keep an eye on Dominik Mahnig(ds) and Shannon Barnett(tb).(Kayo Fushiya)
