もう何年も前の話になるが、2002年前後だったかカリフォルニア州バークレイにあるFreight & Salvageというコーヒー・ハウスでこの突出してオリジナルなトリオを聴く機会があった。マエストロ・アヌアルから直接教えを請うたのだがアラビア語で taktという古代のリズム／パルスを使っていた。バルバロス・エルケーゼ（クラリネット）とラッサド・ホスニ（ベンディール、ダルブッカ）は傑出した名手だった。このような音楽はかつて一度も耳にしたことがなかった。バルバロスはトルコの出身で、いまだに彼の名刺を保管しているよ。
This one’s going back quite a few years. I heard this highly original trio at the Freight & Salvage coffee house in Berkeley, California around 2002. Ancient rhythms/pulse — takt, in Arabic, as described to me by the maestro himself. Barbaros Erköse and Lassad Hosni are great virtuosi; I’d never heard anything like them. Barbaros is from Turkey. I still have his business card !
